Our week here in Tennessee was not quite so busy as the last week. We are still having fun, however. Both of us have had colds this week so we haven't felt as well but we've kept on going. We went out to inspect a couple of missionary apartments this week. We went to Crossville and Jamestown. These apartments are from the new Cookeville Zone that was added to our mission a couple of months ago. No one from the office had seen these apartments so the President wanted them inspected ASAP. Cecile and I drove about 90 minutes to the west to Crossville and then about 45 minutes to the north from there to Jamestown. These places are really out in the country. There is an Elder Kalin Christensen serving in Jamestown who is from Idaho Falls. He knows some of the Baker nieces and nephews who went to Bonneville High School in Idaho Falls. We were able to stop by a roadside stand and buy some beautiful tomatoes, some corn, and a huge watermelon. We don't usually get to do that here in Knoxville. Anyway, it takes a whole day to do a couple of inspections but it needed to be done.
We went teaching with the Sister Missionaries to one of their investigators who is a youth minister of another Church. He is a young man and really seemed to be stuck on the idea of how wrong it is to have additional scriptures besides the Bible. He used the verse in Revelations 22:18 to justify that claim--claiming that it applies to the Bible as we have it now as a whole book. Of course we believe that it only means not adding to the Book of Revelation. I pointed out to him that some of the book of the Bible were actually written after the Book of Revelation. I am prepared with authoritative information that confirms it. The best answer, however, comes from Elder Holland when he pointed out that the Bible as a whole book as we have it now didn't exist until about 1000 AD. The books of the Bible were known only separately before that time--therefore the verse in Revelations could only refer to itself and not to the whole Bible. Arguing over scriptures really doesn't get us very far--this investigator just needs to read the Book of Mormon and ask God. We aren't asking him to believe us, we are asking him to believe God. We need to get over this hurdle with him so he will read and ask. We really do enjoy teaching. It's nice to know that we do have the truth. The people of other Christian churches do love Jesus but they really are mixed up as to who He really is so they don't even know who they are. The more we teach the more we know we have the truth. THE GOSPEL IS TRUE!
We guess you all know that Megan and Justin and their family are living in our home now. We are concerned for them and pray that the path will open up to them somehow. We are praying for them always. We also are praying for Maddie in Peru (she will leave the Lima MTC this next week) and Jordan and Hillary who are having difficulty in residency. We would appreciate it if you all would include them in your fasting and prayers next week. Have a great week!
